After reading Characteristics of Foundational Instructional Design Models. I am wondering that there is a detailed description of the ADDIE model, a diverse depiction of the instructional design process, and a summary of the straightforward characteristics of instruction design in the chapter.
The ADDIE model is one of the most effective tools widely recognized in the instructional design field, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation these five phases. The author pointed that guiding needs assessment and identifying performance problems are the core of the Analysis phase through quotes from else authors. Similarly, the author adopted the same method to detailed illustrates else four phases. Moreover, the author gathered linear depiction, curvilinear depiction, and a depiction based on the waterfall concept these three types of diagrams emphasize that the instructional design process is a reciprocating cycle. These diverse depictions make the relationship of instruction design elements more clear. Then, the author summarized seven characteristics of instructional design with so understandable words. That is, one can realize what is each characteristic of instructional design without more explanation after reading these descriptions. I like this way of expression.
Carr-Chellman suggests: “Doing creative things with your classroom instruction will produce better results overall. Avoid ruts and comfort and keep reaching for the stars, doing new things, creating exciting and fun approaches to your classroom-learning experiences”, which let me remember an education case of a middle school. That is, about two decades years ago, there is a rural middle school in the middle of China, where a young English teacher changed his class. The typical class model was that the teacher lecture and students study through listening in class at that time. However, this situation began to change after a young English teacher coming. This teacher was no longer just talking about knowledge, rather than assigning different tasks to students and let students lecture in class. This new change had caused controversy. The leader and else teachers did not accept the new education model until the grades of these students adopting new methods had a great improvement in the final exam. The case evidenced that “Doing creative things with your classroom instruction will produce better results overall” said Carr-Chellman. This case and these words said Carr-Chellman made me more convinced that innovation is the only way for individuals and enterprise development, industry progress, and even social advancements.
Hi Xiaojiao,
Loved that example you provided about the resilient English teacher who was also an innovative designer! Sometimes creating fun learning experience in the classroom doesn't always lead to measurable learning outcomes, so it was exciting to "see" this teacher pull both together. :) And I believe his/her design process was definitely non-linear!

Hi Xiaojiao,
Recently I designed a project for R641. ADDIE is the model I use to evaluate the project. I realized that the structure of the project will be very clear and enlighten me on what I should do next. I would say ADDIE is a very useful tool for designing. Most important thing is that this model can be used in any field.

Hi, Xiaojiao.
The first and the most important word that caught my eyes from your post was "ADDIE model". Exactly, the ADDIE model is a very functional, organized, and helpful tool in the instructional design field. It shows us the main structure and definition of how to conduct a suitable design for users. It also allows designers to modify the specific sectors as needed. Moreover, it is clear and stratified in all and each step.

Hi! This is Susannah S. from your R511 group. I found the descriptions of the ADDIE model and the graphical representations of different ways of thinking about instructional design really helpful too! I liked the idea that even though instructional design is frequently taught in a linear fashion, it is not one. More appropriately, it's a continuous waterfall of self-correction that reasserts an outcome based on data retrieved from each stage of work. I can see how it can be easy to fall into a more rigid idea of instructional design, given that principles like ADDIE could be parsed out into a linear fashion. I think the saving grace there is that ISD is not only data-oriented and rationally reflective,…
