I think that the guest section every week is a big bonus for me this fall semester. This is because their humorous speeches and rich experiences made me get to know IST from another angle compared to the silent articles. Although I didn’t attend all the guest talks, these talks that I listened always help me when I don’t understand a theory or a concept in articles. And in fact, I also watched some recordings of guest talks that I didn’t attend.
Oftentimes, the guest talks help me understand the IST field better from the articles such as real application context or their experiences. During the guest sections, I was impressed that Dr. Lin Lin read a lot of books and enjoys reading, and Dr. Yunjo An, U comes into the IST because of her mother. Dr. Terry Anderson guided me to recognize the Equivalency Theorem involving learner, teacher, and content. I agree that Dr. Khendum Gyabak said that models cannot be applied in every context. And I am very interested in games’ application for learning or improving cognitive skills mentioned by Dr. Richard Mayer. Although he also said that this field is developing, I believed that it will be helpful for education because people always could be attracted by games. Dr. Tom Reeves introduced an online case regarding authentic learning, I think that the biggest advantage of this case is providing consultation with other countries in the last several weeks. Dr. Tim Newby shared some interesting stories, and that let me know that writing is a gradually improving process, so it is possible to try many times for writing in order to improve the quality of articles. Dr. Punya Mishra shows his real case that it just lets students experience it when you want to teach them a theory or anything else. In fact, the real experience is always impressive, so I agree with this opinion. And I also think that the diverse experience of Dr. Ya Ting Teng will be helpful for my further career. In addition, the suggestion for novices, focusing on practice, mentioned byDr. Allison Rossett is very helpful for my learning in IST. Finally, what Animaker and Powtoon said by Dr. Merve in the guest section today provides me with more choices for making a video. Thank these scholars for these wonderful talks, these are very helpful for me. And thank Dr. Bonk for providing this guest section this semester.
Hi, Xiaojiao
I can not agree more that it is a big bonus for this class regarding the guest section every week. All guests brought different views of how the IST was, is, and will be. As you mentioned in the post, they all come to IST for their reasons, and they all talked about what they learned and how the IST can be applied to the world. There are several topics about the foundation of IST, the news and trend about it, and the career suggestions from some of the guests. It is a great idea and opportunity for us to learn what the real IST is.
Thank you for sharing
