After reading this week's articles, particularly A history of instructional design and technology (Reiser, R. A. 2018), I learn the history of IT. During reading, I first know the history of instructional media. The author introduced the concept of visual instruction or visual education. In the early 19th century, the instructional film was produced and later adopted in public schools. Later, the instructional media gradually emerged new style as technology development, such as audiovisual instruction, instructional television, and computers’ application in instruction. From the early stage, the instructional media almost showed a short-lived in the education field. However, developed to today, as digital technology development including internet, people have used to learn by instructional media based on the internet and lightweight mobile devices. Hence, the instructional media have presented an important impact on the education field.
The instructional design seems to have a similar experience with the instructional media. The early instructional design had little impact on the instruction. But as digital technology, the software, and hardware-the store and delivery tools of instructional media- are extremely rich, there is a great deal of instructional media that can be applied in the instruction. And like Dr. Reiser said in an interview, in recent years, online courses have been applied in all areas of higher education and even the K-12 education field. Hence, I think that instructional design has a major impact on the education area and will continue to play an important role in higher education and business and industry in the future.

Hi Xiaojiao,
You made a good review of the evolution of instructional design and technology. I feel fortunate to be born in this time and grow up in line with the development of information revolution. Digital technology assisted me a lot with my school study from my young age. The instructional design field in US expanded my horizon that it not only exists in education, but the industry. I will swift my attention to a broader scope in this field to catch up with its development in the world.

Hi Xiaojiao,
Nice summary. And I agree with you that the idea of instructional design, not only in terms of the technology side, has a stronger presence in the context of higher education today, which I think is especially true after classes were hosted online since the pandemic.
You mentioned in the few lines of your reflection that you believed instructional design would keep impacting higher education. What are your thought on how it would impact us, and in what way?
