Week9-My Reflection Regarding Trend and issue of IT

The reading and guest meeting of this week brought me a new perspective regarding instruction and technology. At the same time, I also enjoyed the articles and interviews of Dr. Mishra. And I was impressed by his view about trends and issues of instruction and technology, it seemed to open my eyes to look at the other relationship between instruction and technology.

According to the previous work and learning, I argued that one of the most hampers of applying technology in instruction was that most of teachers or instructors didn’t willing to study the using method of technology because of diverse of causes such as too busy to enough time to learn the new technology. And it seems to be a common phenomenon at least in China, particularly among some old-aged teachers. However, I realized that technology indeed served education as a tool after reading the article of Dr. Mishra- The Song Remains the Same: Looking Back to the Future of Educational Technology. In today’s technology explosion era, our education shouldn’t follow the technology trend but rather explore how to apply the technology trend in education. This will be an essential shift regarding the relationship between instruction and technology. I’m very interested in the TPACK, that don’t only focus on physics, software, or teaching but also tries to help educators identify valuable technologies (Mishra, 2009). I think that finding easy-to-use technology tools will be equally important.

From the other article of Dr. Mishra- My Favorite Failure, I seem to see myself experience. My major is project management in the construction field when I was an undergraduate student. After graduating, I came to the online education field, and I enjoyed the job. At the same time, in the field, there is much knowledge that I need to study. Hence, I come back the campus but this time my major is Instructional system technology. I think that the experience of Dr. Mishra lets me feel that I’m not alone. I will continue to enjoy the knowledge of the IST field.

Hi, Xiaojiao

I do agree with your opinion in this post. I think the articles and interviews of Dr. Mishar are interesting and there are plenty of things we can learn from it. I agree with you that it is time-consuming to learn a new method and try to apply it to the real work environment. I also like your idea that it is an essential shift regarding the relationship between instruction and technology. And it is true that finding some easy-to-use technology tools would be very important and practical for educators.

Thanks for sharing.
